Domestic violence service
The Domestic violence service (DV) is a one on one or a group setting program provided by qualified culturally competent staff to DV abuse survivors, children witnesses and offenders. This program is tailored to meet the need of an individual or a family. The treatment plan puts into consideration the individual’s culture ethnic and social economic status.
Crisis Stabilization
Clinicians provide services to the client when needed. The services involve brief intensive sessions such as debriefing that seek to meet the needs of the clients who are experiencing acute crises such as removal from immediate care-givers. Services are also provided to preserve a placement.
Assessment
This includes face to face screening, to help in the determination of the individual’s strength and limitations, functional capacity and support systems leading to an individualized service plan.
Support Staff Program
This program is intended to address the individualized needs of a child or youth with challenging behaviors. This service is provided for up to eight hours per week and includes a combination of structured and enrichment activities consistent with identified treatment plan objectives.
Case Management
Case Managers are assigned to specific clients who are in need of support and guidance. Clients are assisted in securing a wide range of services in the community such as job search, looking for apartments, resume development, and looking for safe child care options.
Immigrant Community Transitional Service
The primary purpose of these services is to help ease the individual’s integration process into the community at large. The individual is connected with others from their cultural communities whenever possible who will add to their integration process in the society. The client is matched up with staff from the same or close cultural background. Advocacy is provided as needed. The client is afforded an opportunity to have a buddy that is non -threatening to the client. Client is taught how to use the locally available amenities such as the public methods of transportation. English as a second language tutorage is provided as needed.

Immigration Advocacy and Support Program
This program involves helping immigrants who need support in navigating the immigration system in the United States and making sure that the appropriate paperwork is filed. This includes support services for changing immigration status, green card applications and citizenship preparation services.
Mother to Mother Program:
IFS works with a mother to identify the safety issues in her home as it pertains to the child.
This program teaches mothers basic parenting skills: e.g. using home based appliances, home cleaning, appointment keeping methods for herself and the child or children. Other services in this program are;
- Language interpretation for mother when necessary and to accompanying the family for training on some basic skills such as using public means of transportation
- Empowering mother by introducing her to the community resources.
- Training mother on healthy and comparative grocery shopping, budgeting and showing her locations of appropriate stores that will help in meeting her family needs
- Teaching a mother shopping skills and healthy food choices and at the same time applying money saving strategies
- Accompanying mother to needed treatment groups as needed.
- Maintaining phone contact with mothers to answer any questions that may arise.
Father to Father Program
- Provides mentoring opportunity for the father
- Training fathers on appropriate parenting skills
- Training on appropriate communication skills to avoid domestic violence.
- Training on resume development and job interviewing.
- Accompanying father to local stores and providing training on appropriate shopping skills
- Addressing any needs for training in terms of transportation skills, phone skills etc.
- Training father on identifying risky behaviors that can endanger him and the family
- Training on budgeting and money management skills.
Pregnant Teen and young mother’s Training
Examples of the topics that will be covered:
- Child’s developmental stages and what to expect during those stages to avoid unrealistic expectations that could lead to abuse and neglect
- How to safely change diapers.
- Appropriate way of putting a baby to sleep in order to avoid Sudden Death Syndrome.
- Providing hands on shopping skills in order to build comparative shopping abilities helping them to be able to manage their money wisely.
- How to buy age appropriate toys for their babies. How to clean and to sterilize their babies feeding utensils.
- How to avoid risky behaviors while they are pregnant and thereafter.
- Making healthy food choices.
- How to cook safe meals for the baby if mother does not want to buy store pre-packed foods.
- Toilet training, sleep time preparation, bathing the baby etc.
The training sessions includes taking the participants to a local department to help in identifying safe and affordable baby items. Participants earn a certificate of completion that is presented to them on the closing ceremony. A gift certificate is awarded to those who successfully complete the class. Guardians and the youth’s social worker are invited for the closing session that is announced in advance.
Language Interpretation and document translations
Language interpretation and translation services are available such as Creole, Spanish, Portuguese, Swahili and a variety of African languages and dialects. Life and on the phone interpreters are available.
Educational Support for students in need
- Advocate for the child.
- Support the parent as he/she provides tutoring the child
- Assess the educational need
- Accompany parent to meetings with the school
- Attend PPT to advocate for child and parent
- Home based Tutoring Services:
- One on one Tutoring:
- Formulate Individual Educational Plan for the child to use at home.
- Provide monthly written reports or as needed
Other services
Supervised Visit’s Services
These services involve families whose children have been removed by child protective services and there is a need for supervision. Supervision provided at the DCF office or in the community.
Transportation
We provide transportation for families and children. Transportation to and from school and other activities is provided.
Anger Management
Anger management is a process of learning to recognize signs that a person is becoming angry, and taking action to calm down and deal with the situation in a positive way. Anger is a normal, healthy emotion but should be expressed appropriately. This Anger management program teaches how to do this.
Family and individual therapy
Therapy is provided in the client’s residence or in an office setting as deemed appropriate. Treatment modality is decided after the assessment is completed with the client.
